If you need some tips and hints on creating items specifically for preemies, and the differences between creating for an angel and a NICU baby, plus a size chart, read this page HERE.
If you are looking for places to send donations, I have a small list of charities in Australia and overseas HERE.
If you have ideas or suggestions for preemie and micro preemie or keepsake items, please email me at myshellecole@gmail.com and I will see what I can do.
Some people have asked if I need anything/accept donations. I am always happy to accept donations of yarns (and in particular ones from outside of Aus, as my stash here is fairly limited by location and finances) If you would like to send a ball, please email me at the above email address and I will pass on postal details.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful patterns! I just became a Grammy of triplet little girls June 30th. Thank our Lord they all were born at a good weight for 32 weeks. Just visiting in the NICU I have come to know the other parents and nurses and have made the little beanies for the little angel babies sharing their time with my granddaughters. It is just so special! May many blessings come your way!!! <3
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new baby girls. What a blessing!
DeleteThank you, words not sufficient for all you have done in creating these patterns but all that have thank you.
ReplyDeleteKnowing that people use and/or donate the finished items from them is all the thanks I need <3
DeleteHello I'm really in need of one of these hats for my still born baby please help how to get one
DeleteHi there,
DeleteI don't actually keep any in stock for sending out anymore, I only design and donate to other organisations. If you can let me know what country/area you are in, I will tell you what organisation is close to you <3
I never realized until very recently that there were Micro Preemie Babies. Thank you for all of your tips, hints, patterns, etc. I've made a couple of your hats and am thinking I'll try some other items too. I think your patterns are wonderful! Thanks again for all of the hard work you've put into on this site!
ReplyDeleteI thank you for the large variety of hats, clothing and shoes. Their is also a teeny tiny little beanie for 0-8 wks, that one is very special and I will be making at least 4 in honor of our 4 little bitties lost early in the first trimester, for our 5th I will look for a simple pattern for our last that almost made it to the 2nd trimester. I am also a former Level 2/3 NICU RN and I helped run our bereavement program. We always had clothing and such for our full term losses but it was very difficult to find something for the little ones. I am getting ready to start making many little hats for a Christmas project. Many Blessings, Sara S.
ReplyDeleteI just started making beanies and bonnets for "Harper's Lagacy", a newly opened chapter of Threads of Love, in Rochester NY. We make clothing for still born infants and donate them to hospitals. I am soooo glad that I found your site. I've been looking for a bonnet that I like AND patterns that fit tiny babies. Thank you sa much.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your patterns
ReplyDeleteI volunteer as a photographer with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, and I use the crocheted hats, gowns, and more on a regular basis as I create memories for the parents of the children born too soon. I can't tell you how much it means to the parents to have something special to put their children in- something other than a maxi pad cut up as a diaper and a hospital blanket. I am learning to crochet so that I will always have something for these little ones, so thank you so much for the patterns, and for all of you who create and donate things from them.
ReplyDeleteA huge thankyou to you too. Being a photographer for such an organisation is not an easy thing to do. Here in Australia we have Heartfelt, which do the same thing.
DeleteI wish you the best of luck learning to crochet. I am sure you will pick it up in no time.
Thank you for sharing your patterns. I make things for Preemies UK and these patterns will be very useful
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the patterns for your creations. I also make for PreemiesUK and have made several Cherub Comfort cradles and Davida gowns. Your patterns are so simple and easy to follow, especially for someone like me who hasn't been crocheting for long.
ReplyDeleteI have used your patterns to make items for angel babies at my local surrounding hospitals. I am anonymous in my donations, but I do add a little note saying the measurements and made with love. Am I suppose to add on the paper Pattern by mama that makes? If so, what exactly do you want me to write on the note? I love making these things for these sweet angle babies and I never could come up with a pattern by myself. So Thank you for your talent in doing so. I'm just not sure how I'm to credit your hard work on my donations, please let me know.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
DeleteIm glad you like the patterns, its always nice to hear from people that use them often.
As for crediting, if you want to include something along the lines if "Patterns sourced from Mamma That Makes" that is fine, or just a link to the blog is also fine, but honestly I am not overly fussed if people do or do not state it when they are making donations to hospitals, it is entirely up to you.
I only really hope for credit like that when people are sharing things online, (pics on Facebook or on their own blogs ect) as it means other people can find my page and may decide to help the cause as well. After all, a lot of people don't even know there is a need for such small items.
just love all these designs. I will be busy for weeks. But I need to get painting for my shows. Oh well, first things first. I will put a little label on all I make as to where I got the pattern. I am a firm believer of giving credit where credit is due. Thanks for all your hard work. We make these items for the babies in different hospitals and organizations. Who ever is in need . thanks again for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for putting your patterns on the web they are all beautiful
ReplyDeleteI think the cribs are a wonderful idea. 50 years ago I had an angel and there was nothing like this, I never even saw her. I think your patterns are beautiful and you cater for all. Thank you so much. Bless you
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing these patterns with us. They are well used by myself. I crochet, and knit for angel babies and preemies. It is hard to get sets of patterns (and I am no good at sizing myself) So its great how you have organized things in size, makes it so much easier for me to get it right.
ReplyDeleteYou are a blessing to so many, both big (the crocheters) and little (our precious babies)
Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your patterns with us on the world wide web :-). They are well written and I appreciate how you have organized them with photos and gestational age/size. Our fourth baby was born early at 35 weeks and spent a bit of time in the NICU. One thing that helped me feel "normal" was putting her in (too large!!) hats I had crocheted for her. After talking with the nurses (who told me they take donations!) I am working on a donation of special hats to donate to the NICU where Rose spent her first week of life to hopefully bring some cheer to other families. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteJessica
What beautiful patterns, and it's so generous of you to share them.
ReplyDeletemy son was stillborn 2 months ago... and I cherish the items I received, I have taught myself to crochet so I can make these to donate... thank you for all the sizes and free patterns.. God BLESS
ReplyDeletethank you for the lovely patterns for the tiny babysi am going to make some for my hospital i already do all size hats for them but you have put some lovely things to make which i will do thank you for you generousity and time very generous x
ReplyDeleteDo you have patterns for knitters, I'd love to help, I'm just learning how to crocher x
ReplyDeleteTheres a website that do knitting patterns, some free but loads at only £1 http://www.babydollhandknitdesigns.co.uk/category_42/GIRL-16-22-PDF-format-only-patterns.htm
DeleteI just stumbled across your wonderful patterns and am so thrilled that I have found this!! I do photography at our local hospital for the babies born and didn't realize the absolute need for things in this size until I started working there. After doing 2 bereavement photo shoots in a short time I saw that there really isn't anything beautiful for these precious angels. I have since started crocheting many things in many sizes to donate to our hospitals. I thank you so very much for the patterns and am glad to be able to donate to such a wonderful cause!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I delivered a 16week stillborn child... someone had made and donated a knitted cocoon and matching blanket that would be the only clothing to ever fit my tiny son. I'm so grateful that I went online today to find some crocheted patterns so that I can make some and give them to the hospital for other families that will unfortunately have to suffer the same fate as me. Your's was the first site I found. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss. It's so difficult to be so far along in your pregnancy that you deliver a baby that often is not recognized as a baby (where I live babies are "miscarriage" unless they are over 20 weeks). Parents often go home from the hospital with nothing to remind them of their baby. I have found great comfort in crocheting for others what was not available 20 years ago when I "miscarried" our son.
DeleteHaving worked in labor and delivery most of my nursing career I have cared for many Mom's with early losses, and I really appreciate these premie/angel crochet pieces of clothing. Now that I have found this site, I am going to start making these outfits and give them to the labor and delivery unit that worked on for all those years. Thanks to "Momma that makes" for all the precious patterns

I've used your blog for several different patterns, but this section is my favorite. Three years ago I delivered a tiny stillborn at 20 weeks. I've since seen the need for this type of stuff and thrown my heart and would into starting a not for profit call Angel Blankets. I mainly distribute blankets, but do occasionally do hats and gowns for my local hospitals. I'll be referring my volunteers here for patterns. Thanks for this.
ReplyDeleteI have been using your patterns to make various items for NICU and Angel Babies. I just finished two Wendy Dresses, one in pink and one in yellow. They are so sweet. I would like to find a suitable bonnet made of thread and the correct size to go with the dress. Also, I made some of the boy baby items and wanted a boy cap. I developed this tiny visor cap, and I want to pass it on to you and your readers. Myshelle, you may make one and put it on your site. It's really cute.

Oh, thank you so much Cherie Decker for this pattern. I make mostly for Project Robby - caps, hats, bonnets, blankets and cocoons. It is nice to find a cute preemie boy cap pattern.
DeleteGod bless you for providing these patterns to help ease the pain of these grieving families.

Thanks so much for what you do. I am a photographer for NILMDTS. I have ladies that do this for me. Many of my wee ones have nothing. Some have a lot but I always have one tucked away in case. They are a gift from the ladies who do this from their angels or just the kindness of their hearts. You are wonderful!

ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Claudia and I belong to a group of German women that make clothes for preemies or stillborn babies. You can find us under Sternenkinder>Lichter die ewig leuchten on FB. Since there are not many patterns available in German for this kind of work, I would like to ask for your permission to translate some of your patterns into german only to be used within our group. If u wish so, I would also make them available to you so you can use them in your own posts. Sincerly Claudia u can also contact me under smileforme_angel@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that the work we do is only for charity. We have no interest on making money of your patters
DeleteThank you for these patterns. Our family had an angel baby in 2015 and we just had a 36 week premie. It is so hard to find cloths that fit him, and I did not know how to adapt regular baby paterns. Know I can make him a few outfits.
ReplyDeleteThe only experience in angel babies that I have is hearing the story of my grandmother's angel baby. He would have been my only biological uncle. The doctors told my grandfather at 38 weeks that they had lost the baby. They never told my grandmother. At 40 weeks the doctors induced her labor and she gave birth to her still born son. She saw him but didn't hold him. She says things were so much different then. They had no option here for a cesarean so that's just how things were done.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across your page by complete accident. And I'm now going to go grab some scrap dk cotton I have and a hook and get to work. Even if the only hospital I have in bermuda won't take items I'm sure there are thousands of hospitals world wide that need these resources in order to help grieving families and those who are adjusting to life with preemies. A friend had twins at 30 weeks and so i have experience with crocheting for the very small but your site has given me a purpose to at least try to help those who can't do for themselves and give comfort when it's most needed.
Thank you for doing what so many like myself would never thought to do before
Finally I am now comfortable with my place in this world my calling in later years. I am crocheting beanies in all gestation sizes for our hospital. I rang our local hospital's nursery and they told me that they had a great need for hats and beanies in all sizes to use on both preemie's and angle babies.Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful preemie & angle baby patterns. The work you do is making a real difference all around the world beyond your and my imagination. Each article made touches so many lives as a donation. I crochet in honour of my one and only grandchild (angle baby) and the nurse who was in charge of the intensive care nursery for about 40 years who isn't real well.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for such a wonderful resource! We have begun this service where I live with a great group of crafters! Many have never made anything so small and this will be such a help for them. As one who has lost a baby and did not have this offered to her, I can tell you just how precious this will be for the moms and dads. Thank you on their behalf!

ReplyDeleteIve just got the pattern for Little Robin Keepsake and read your story which brought tears to my eyes. I have never been through this type of loss but reading this just confirms in my heart why i decided to join CCP. I cant remember how i found CCP but was most likely on Facebook and I felt it was what I wanted to do for the precious little Angels and for the greiving parents.I have done heaps of Charity knitting over the years and i love to knit and now I'm practising my crochet skills and learning as I give to this group.Thank you so much Myshelle
thank you for the preemie patterns I have two granddaughters born very small and have grown to be healthy beautiful little girls..I now make preemie hats and donate to help others tiny ones and pray they also grown healthy and happy Love all your patterns
ReplyDeleteHi, thank you so much for sharing both these patterns and your stories, I am so sorry about Alice. My mother works as a Bereavement Midwife and I have asked if she would like any of the cribs and hats for her mummies and she has asked for a selection. I have tried doing the Alice and Serenity crib and neither of them seem to have the same shape as yours do in the pictures, is there a special way you do them, should they be tight stitches?
ReplyDeleteHi Bryony,
DeleteYes, the stitches should be kept very tight, this helps keep shape with the cradles.
Thank you :) also do you put a base in all of them?
DeleteHello! First I want to say that you have amazing patterns! You're so creative- you're an inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I was wondering how to make (or where you get) the little sewn dolls that are in some of your pictures, such as the Brianna Romper). I need them for a personal project.
Thanks for all you do!
Hi there!
DeleteThe dolls I use are made from this pattern https://judisdolls.com/preemie.html :)

I really appreciate this my first was 34 week baby he was ok but had jaundice so he was in Nicu for almost 2 weeks and even though he was ok it was very overwhelming and scary, I remember I held him in my arms and I cried because he was so little and I felt helpless seeing althose wires and things on him a nurse came up to me with a little hat and said these were donated to us and this one is for your little trooper and receiving that was like getting a hug from someone telling me it’s going to be alright. I’m on my third child and I have four months to go so I’m making a crochet hat every day until I go into labor so that I can donate to hospital and so that I can metaphorically give hugs to the mommies in the NICU they need it, thank you so much for these free patterns.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the moses baskets used for with angel babies.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if there are any special yarn types need to be used? I k ow some are bulky and heavy?
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing person you are to create these tiny patterns for little angels, God bless you xx
