11. The Louisa Beanie

Hello hello! Welcome to day 11. Today's beanie is something a little different, but also sweet. It has a lovely little upturned brim and the addition of some buttons really makes it. Of course, you could add other embellishments, like a bow or flowers, or some little jewels.

The Louisa Beanie

Sized To Fit:
34-38 Weeks gestation.

You Will Need:
DK weight/8ply yarn in main and contrasting colours
5.0mm hook
1-3 buttons

All stitches are in American terms. Trc - triple crochet.

Starting chain counts as a stitch in all rounds except round 1 and 10

Into a magic ring, ch3, dc 10 times, join to the first dc - 10

Ch3, dc in the same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around, join to ch3. - 20 (5.5cm/2.1”)

Ch3, dc in the same stitch, dc in the next stitch, *2dc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch3. - 30 (8cm/3.1”)

Ch3, dc in the same stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches, *2dc in the next stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches*, repeat around, join to the ch3. - 40 (11cm/4.3”)

5.-8. Ch3, dc in each stitch around, join to the ch3. - 40

9. Ch2. hdc in each stitch around, join to the ch2. - 40

10. Change to contrasting colour and turn work. Working in front loops only: ch1, sc in the same stitch, sc in the next 9 stitches, hdc in the next stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches, trc in the next 2 stitches, dc in the next 2 stitches

 ch1, TURN, working in all loops, sc in the same stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches, trc in the next 2 stitches, dc in the next 2 stitches, slst in the next stitch, 

TURN, ch1, slst in the same stitch, slst in the next 7 stitches, ch2, slst into the same stitch as the last DC made before the first turn, in the front loops only, continue to sc in each stitch around, join to the first sc.

Your contrasting coloured brim should fold up and stay, however if you want to sew it down feel free to. Arrange the button/s on the oval section of the hat and sew into place.

Finished Measurements: Total height 12cm/4.7”, total width across brim 16cm/6.2”

10. The Caleb Beanie

Morning all and welcome to day 10!

Today's beanie is so sweet. It features what's called a side crochet stitch, meaning that the stitch is created around the post of the previous stitch, making it sit sideways. It's super easy to do once you've done a few and the effect is a lovely textured stitch.

24-26 Weeks Gestation

You Will Need:
3.25mm hook
Sport weight/5ply yarn I used Moda Vera Marvel 5ply.

All stitches are in American terms.

Special Notes: To create the side stitch, you need to crochet around the post of the previous stitch. The first one of each side stitch row will be around the starting chain, be careful to make sure your stitch doesn’t ride up and cover the top of your ch3, you’ll need to b eable to see that 3rd chain to join to it.

1: Into a magic ring, ch2, dc 10 times, join to the first dc. - 10

2: Ch3 (counts as first stitch), dc around the post of the first stitch (ch3) just made, *dc in the next stitch, dc around the stitch just made*, repeat around, join to the ch3. - 20dc (4.5cm/1.7”)

3: Ch1, sc in the same stitch, sc the next stitch, *2sc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the first ch. - 30 (6cm/2.3”)

4: Ch3 (counts as first stitch), dc around the post of the previous stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc around the post of the previous stitch, skip 1, *dc in the next stitch, dc around the post of the previous stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc around the post of the previous stitch, skip 1*, repeat around, join to the ch3. - 40 (8cm/3.1”)

5: Ch1, sc in each stitch around, join to first ch. - 40

6: Ch3, dc around the post of the previous stitch, skip 1, *dc in the next stitch, dc around the post of the previous stitch, skip 1*, repeat around, join to ch3. -40

7: Repeat round 5.

8: Repeat round 6.

9: Repeat round 5.

10: Repeat round 6.

11: Repeat round 5.

End off and weave in tails.
