16. Robby Preemie Beanie

Good morning all and welcome to day 16.

Today's pattern is something a little unique that I haven't done a lot of pattern wise. Using negative space to create a visual pattern. I love how the skipped stitches in the Robby beanie give the illusion of little arches in the hat. Now, I know the pattern looks like a wall of text, but trust me, it's pretty simple! The repeats are very easy to remember, promise! I made sure to write the steps out without shorthand, so even those new to crochet can complete this one :)

You Will Need:
DK Weight/8ply yarn
4mm hook

Sized To Fit:
38-40 Weeks Gestation (small newborn)

1: Into a magic ring ch2, dc 9 times, join to the first dc. -9dc

2. Ch3, dc 2 more times into the same stitch, ch1, skip the next stitch, *3dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch3. -15dc

3: Ch3, 3dc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain, *dc in the next stitch, 3dc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain*, repeat around, join to the ch3. -25dc

4: Ch3, dc in the same stitch, dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain, *2dc in the next stitch, dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain*, repeat around, join to the ch3. -35dc

5: Ch3,  dc in the same stitch, dc in the next 5 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain, *2dc in the next stitch, dc in the next 5 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch, ch1, skip the next chain*, repeat around, join to the ch3. - 45dc

6: Ch3, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, skip the next stitch, dc in the next 4 stitches, ch1, *skip the next ch1, dc in the next 4 stitches, ch1, skip the next stitch, dc in the next 4 stitches, ch1*, repeat around, join to the ch3. -40dc

9: Ch3, dc in the next stitch, , ch1, skip the next ch, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, skip the next chain, dc in the next 2 stitches, ch1, skip the next chain, *dc in the next 2 stitches, ch1, skip the next chain, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, skip the next chain, dc in the next 2 stitches, ch1, ski the next chain*, repeat around, join to the ch1.

10-11: Repeat round 9

12: Ch1, sc in each stitch and chain around, join to the ch1. -50sc

13: Ch1, sc in the back loop only of each stitch around, join to ch1. -50sc

End off and weave in all tails.

15. Posy Beanie

Morning all and hello to day 15, our halfway mark! Today's beanie is very similar to the 18-19 weeker beanie from day 9. In fact, the Posy only has a couple of changes, to change the measurement size! It is, like the other, a great beanie for adding small embellishments and is the perfect place for someone who's only just learning to start.

DK Weight/8ply Yarn
3.5mm Hook

Sized To Fit:
20 Weeks Gestation

1: Into a magic ring ch2, dc 12 times, join to the first dc. -12dc

2: Ch3, dc in the same stitch, 2dc in each stitch around, join to the first dc -24dc

3: Ch3, dc in each stitch around, join to the first dc.

4-7: Repeat round 3

End off, weaving in tails.

Alternative Options.

Add a round of crab stitch after round 7.
Use contrasting colours for every second round for stripes.
Use a contrasting colour for round 7.
