Itty Bitty Giant Hat Drive 2019 Day 1 The Christine Pearse Beanie

Good morning all and welcome to the 7th annual Itty Bitty GIANT Hat Drive!

Wow, can you even believe we are now on our 7th year? Crazy right?

This year we are shaking things up a little bit with the introduction of patterns from other designers! We'll have some guest posts, some patterns from other creators and we will finally have some knit patterns in the mix! How exciting!

So, let's do some housework before we get stuck into today's pattern.

For those who are new to the IBGHD, every September we come together from all walks of life, across the globe, to make hats for the purpose of donating to charities who support families in their time of need, when a baby dies.

Often these babies are very premature, and families have a hard time finding things that fit. The IBGHD has many beneficiaries everywhere in the world who receive the hats we all make and can then redistribute them as needed.

From October 1st till October 14th we spend some time weaving in ends, organizing postage, putting the finishing touches on hats and reflecting. October 15th, which is the international day for pregnancy and infant loss, we post our hats to the organisations.

Traditionally, I release a new pattern per day, however as I said above we're shaking it up this year with some new designers! This year our hats are named after angel babies of parents from our CCP crafters group 💗

You can follow along and make the hats I share every day, or you can use whatever pattern you like. There are no hard and fast rules for most organisations, and those that do I'll be sure to note below.

If you would like to read more about the why behind this event, just have a look through the previous years IBGHD day 1 posts.

You can follow along on Facebook also at the Mamma That Makes page, which will be where most of the updates will be.

This years official organisations for sending our donations to are:

💙Chance's Clothes Project (Aus)
💙Sleeping Beauties Angel Gowns Kent (UK)
💙Needles & Hooks Angels & Preemies (UK)
💙South East SCBU Knit and Crochet Donations Group (UK)
💙Southern Grace Angelic Gowns (US)
💙Anencephaly Hope (US)

You can find the locations and addresses for ALL of these organisations HERE

Remember to PLEASE include a note with your hats when you send them to let the group know who you are (many like to say thanks), and that you are posting as a part of the Itty Bitty GIANT Hat Drive. This helps us keep a tally each year of how many hats get made, and it's always fun to see if we beat the previous years total. Remember, 1 hat or 100, we are happy with ALL donations made. Working together is how we make a big impact. Remember to tag your photos on Facebook and Instagram with #IBGHD and #IttyBittyGIANTHatDrive2019

If you have any questions PLEASE email me at myshellecole@gmail.com or send an inbox to the MammaThatMakes Facebook page.

Well, let's kick this year off with our first pattern!
