Chris Jacket - Free Newborn Crochet Pattern

Good morning all and welcome to May's newborn pattern.

The Chris Jacket has been something I've had in the works for a while, and you may remember I used the same stitch for a pair of Preemie Pants back in 2015.

Gosh, I really do love this little jacket. Just enough texture to mix it up, but not too busy, and very neutral. It's a quick make too, and wouldn't take more than a day to complete,  making it perfect for last minute baby showers. Made as instructed, this jacket will fit a newborn baby, up to maybe 2 months, depending of course on bubs size.

The Chris Jacket

Sized To Fit:
Newborn to 2 months

You will need
4mm hook
DK weight (8ply, light worsted) yarn in main and contrasting colour. 1 100g ball of the main colour is plenty.
3 buttons
3 stitch markers

1: Chain 50, hdc in the second chain from hook, hdc in the next 2 chains, 2hdc in the next chain, *hdc in the next 3 chains, 2hdc in the next chain*, repeat across, hdc in the last stitch. - 61

2: Ch3, turn, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat across, dc in the last stitch. - 61

3: Ch2, turn, *hdc in the first 4 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat across, hdc in the last. -73

4: Ch3, turn, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat across, dc in the last stitch. - 73

5: Ch2, turn, *hdc in the next 7 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat across, 2hdc in the last stitch. - 83

6: Ch3, turn, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat across, dc in the last stitch. - 83

7: Ch2, turn, hdc in each stitch across. - 83

8: Ch2, turn, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat 6 times, chain 5, skip 18 stitches, dc in the 19th stitch, dc in the 18th (previous) stitch, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat 9 times, chain 5, skip the next 18 stitches, dc in the next stitch, dc in the previous stitch, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat 4 times, dc in the last stitch. - 59 including chains

9: Ch2, turn, hdc in each stitch and chain across. - 59

10: Ch3, turn, *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat across, dc in the last stitch. - 59

11: Ch2, turn, hdc in each stitch across. - 59

12-17: Repeat rows 10 and 11.

18: Ch2, turn, hdc in each stitch across. End off.

Sleeves.

1: Attach yarn to any stitch towards the back side of an arm hole and ch2, hdc in the same stitch and evenly hdc around the arm hole for 28 stitches, join. (28)

2: Ch2, *hdc in the next 5 stitches, hdc2tg* repeat around, join. - 24

3: Ch3 *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat around, join. - 24

4: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join. - 24

5-10: Repeat rounds 3-4. - 24

11-12: Ch1, sc in each stitch around. - 24

End off and weave in all tails. Reattach yarn to the second arm hole and complete 1-12 to make the second sleeve.

Finishing.

Figure out what position you would like your buttons in, and place markers there. I picked 3 buttons, but you could do any number you like.

Join your contrasting colour to the bottom right corner of the jacket and ch1, sc evenly up the side of the front opening of the jacket, sc in each stitch around the neckline, sc back down the other side of the front opening, when you reach a stitch marker make a button hole, I chained 3 for my button holes, but you may need more or less depending on the size of your buttons, once you have chained 3 for your button hole sc back into the same space before continuing to sc down the opening. When you reach the bottom, sc in each stitch across the bottom of the jacket until you reach the starting ch1, and slst to join.

End off and weave in all of the tails. Add your buttons and done!

Ribbed Prem Jacket - Free Crochet Pattern

Good morning lovlies.

Phew it sure has been a busy week in the mamma household. A lot of creating and crafting and outings. The Angels for the forgotten's annual craft challenge starts in a few short months, and so I've been gearing up for that and making a head start on patterns and ideas. If you are in Australia and looking for a great organisation to support with handmade items, these guys are just fantastic. Ive been sending items there for over a year now and the work they do with the little they have is nothing short of amazing. There are SOOO many things you can do too, it isn't just limited to crochet/knit.

Im also extremely excited to say that I have some international yarns on the way in the mail to play with and I can't wait to test them out. Its a very rare thing to get worsted weight yarns here in Aus and especially hard in the area of Tasmania I'm in. I hope to do some newborn sized things with them, but I am especially hoping to get some cocoon patterns up :)

Today's pattern is for a sweet little jacket with a collar and ribbed edging. As you can see it works great for both boys and girls. I've included more images and measurements then I usually do to try and give you guys better instructions. I hope it helps. You can expect more images being added to past patterns as well :) This pattern will require front and back post double crochets and if you are unfamiliar with them, there is an excellent YouTube video on them here (granted, the video is for hdc's but the method for going around the posts is the same for all fp/bp stitches)

The pink jacket made as instructed will fit a baby of around 26 weeks gestation. The blue jacket was made using a 3mm hook instead of a 3.5 and is slightly smaller (24 weeks gestation)

Notes:
trc = Triple Crochet. Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and draw hook through sticth (4 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over pull through last 2 loops.

You will need
dk/8ply/light worsted weight yarn in a main and contrasting colour
3.5mm (E) hook
1 button
needle for sewing

Front panels

1. Ch7, sc in the second ch from hook and each across. (6)
2. Ch2, turn, dc across. (6)
3-5. Ch2, turn, dc across.  (6)

6. Ch2, turn, 2dc in the first stitch, dc in the last 5 stitches. (7)
7. Ch2, turn, dc in the first 6 stitches, 2dc in the last stitch.  (8)
8. Ch2, turn, 2dc in the first stitch, dc in the last 7 stitches. (9)

9-11. Ch2, turn, dc in each stitch across. (9)

End off, weave in tails. My panel is 13cm long, 4cm wide at the top and 6cm wide at the bottom.

Repeat to make a second panel.

Back panel
1. Ch21, sc in the 2nd chain from hook and each across. (20)
2-5. Ch2, turn, dc across.
6. Ch1, turn, slst in the 1st stitch,  dc in the next 18 stitches. (18)

7-9.ch2, turn, dc across.
10. Ch2, turn, dc in the first 7 stitches, sc in the next 4 stitches, dc in the last 7 stitches.
11. Ch3, trc in the first 6 stitches, dc, sc in the next 4 stitches, dc, trc in the last 6 stitches.
End off

Lay the front pieces onto the back piece and Sew the shoulder seams together first.

 Next sew the side seams from the bottom up for 4 rows. Turn jacket in the right way so seams are inside.

Sleeves
1. Join yarn to any stitch in the arm hole near the centre underarm and ch2, evenly dc around the entire opening for 24 dcs. Join.

2. Ch2, dc around, join. (24)
3. Ch2, dc2tg, dc in the next 20 stitches, dc2tg. (22)
4-6. Ch2, dc in each stitch around, join.
End main colour.
Change to contrasting colour and hdc in each stitch around. (22)

Main cuff 
With jacket opening facing up and bottom edge away, join contrasting yarn to left hand corner.

1.Ch2, hdc in each stitch along the bottom of the jacket, when you get to the next corner stop.

2. Ch2, turn, dc in the 1st stitch, *fpdc around the next stitch, bpdc around the next stitch* repeat  across, to the last stitch and dc in the last stitch.

3. Ch2, turn, dc in the 1st,  fpdc around each bpdc from the previous round, and bpdc around each fpdc from the previous round, dc in the last stitch. It will depend on your stitch count as to if you start with fpdc or bpdc.

4. Repeat row 3.
End off

Rejoin as shown

5. Ch3, dc evenly up the side until you are level with the bottom of the sleeves,

 sc evenly around the neck area, until you are level with the bottom of the other sleeve,

 change back to dcs and dc evenly till you reach the bottom.

6. Ch2, turn, dc in each dc stitch, when you reach the sc's from the previous round *2sc in the 1st stitch, sc in next stitch*, repeat for all sc stitches, when you get to the last section of dc's from the previous row dc in each remain stitch.

7. Ch2, turn, dc in each stitch around. Finish off and weave in all tails.

Attach button.

Ariel Cardi - Free Micro Preemie Crochet Pattern

Good afternoon lovlies,

This weeks pattern comes as a request from the CCP crafters group. It is a very small and dainty jacket/cardi for 16-18 weeks. I will have a hat and booties up to match it in the future. I know bubba's of this size more often then not don't wear clothing and instead use wraps/cocoons ect, but it is incredibly important that there IS clothing options available for those who do need them, and as it stands now, there is such a lack of items to fit the 16-20 week range. Hopefully I can bridge that gap some with a few items for people to make and donate.


Supplies
2.00mm hook
Fingering / 4 ply (I used Moda Vera Gelato)

1: chain 31, hdc in the second chain from hook and each across (30)

2: ch2, turn, 2dc in the first stitch, dc in the next stitch, repeat across. (45)

3: ch2, turn, 2hdc in the first stitch, hdc in the next 2 stitches, repeat across (60)

4: ch2, turn, dc in the first 13 stitches, ch5, skip 8, dc in the next 18 stitches, ch5, skip 8, dc in the last 13 stitches. (44dc's, 10ch's)

5: ch2, turn, dc in each stitch and chain across (54)

6-11: ch2, turn, dc in each stitch across

End off and weave in tails.

Sleeves
1: Join yarn to one of the chain stitches on the arm hole (will be the underarm section) and ch2, dc evenly around the armhole 19 times, join. (19)

2-3: ch2, dc in each stitch around, join. (19)

4: ch2, dc2tg, dc in the remaining 17 stitches, join. (18)

5: ch2, dc in each stitch around, join. (18)

Bo's Jacket - Free Prem Crochet Pattern

Wow its been quiet on here lately. Sorry! School holidays have had me running about like a mad woman. Things have calmed down some now my mini me's are back at school, and I have more hours for crocheting. One thing I did manage to do over the holidays however was work on this lovely little jacket (and matching pants, next week)

This jacket is fairly simple to make. The only complicated stitch is the bobble. This is the hdc5tg bobble. To make it, you simply hdc 5 together, but in the one stitch. Here is a quick rundown:
yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, pull yarn through (3 on hook), yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through (5 on hook), yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through (7 on hook), , yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through (9 on hook), yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, pull yarn through (11 on hook), yarn over, pull through all 11 loops. One bobble completed.

This jacket will fit 28-30 weeks gestation.

Lewis Jacket - Free crochet pattern

Good afternoon all

It has been a crazy few weeks here in the Mamma household. One that has led to some very tough choices and decisions being made.

Yesterday I announced that I would no longer be selling finished products. For a year now, I have been making and selling photography props and hats. Mainly to help cover the cost of postage for all the preemie items.

This meant I had less and less time to spend actually designing which is what I love to do the most.

So it is a little sad that I wont be running the store anymore, and I really do enjoy making props, but first and foremost is the designing aspect, being able to supply you all with patterns that I know will help families across the globe is more humbling and means much more to me then any amount of sales ever will. I have also been asked a LOT lately for larger sized patterns, and that is again, certainly something I want to play with. Anyhows! Today's pattern is for a little jacket that will fit 24-26 weeks gestation. It would work for both genders, but I used the blue/orange/brown variegated from Patons Fantasia range, which by the way, feels amazing! Its very simple to make and quite easy to adjust. I am making a second one, with stripes :)

3.75mm hook

4ply (fingering weight) yarn. I used Patons Fantasia.

Fold down collar.

Sleeves

1: Join yarn to any st on the sleeve hole and ch2, dc evenly around (21sts for me), join.

2-8: ch2, dc around, join

9-10: ch1, sc in each st around, join.

End off yarn.

Repeat for second sleeve.
