Little itty bitty booties - Free Crochet Pattern

Hello again my lovlies. I know, 2 posts in a day! Looks like Im on a roll with getting things finished today huh!

Id like to share with you all today a pattern for crocheted booties. Not just any normal crocheted booties but very small open heeled booties. These little darlings are just over 3cm in length to fit 20-22 weeks gestation and in reality, probably about the smallest bootie you would be able to use. Keep in mind that babies this small are so delicate and hard to dress that open heels are a must. Remember to use soft yarn for them.

Some hospitals may not accept these as wearable items, if not they would also be wonderful to have as a memory item. Originally made to go with a gown and the purple picots hat but I didn't get them all up together. Either way, here goes!

Little Itty Bitty Booties

2.5mm hook and 4ply fingering weight yarn. I used Bella Baby Sugar in Lilac and some mystery pink 4ply for the tie.

1. ch3, dc into the first chain 9 times, join

2 - 3. ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join

4 - 6. ch2, hdc in the next 7 stitches, TURN

7. ch2, hdc in the next 3 stitches, hdc2tg, hdc in the last 2 stitches, dont end!!

CUFFS

8. ch3, dc evenly in the end stitches (from the previous rows) around the top of the bootie (where the ankle will be)

9. ch3, turn, dc in each st around, finish off and weave in ends.

For tie:

Make a chain of 60. Trim ends and weave tie in and out of the dc's on row 8. Tie at the back of the heel in a bow.

Super Chunky Cocoon Photo Prop - Free Crochet Pattern

Hey howdy hey peeps!

Today I have my very first photography prop crochet pattern for you all. It is a super chunky cocoon. Very easy to make, a little time consuming because of the size but it goes fast enough while your watching TV or some such.

You will need:
2 strands of yarn: I used DK weight yarn,  green variegated and dark blue. The dark blue was a mystery yarn and seemed a little thicker then the other DK, but not quite thick enough for worsted, but you could probably use one dk and one worsted without any problems.
10mm hook
needle for sewing in ends
measuring tape.

Super Chunky Cocoon: Newborn
American terms used throughout.

R1. ch3, dc into 1st ch 9 times, join.
R2. ch3, dc in the same space *dc in the next, 2dc in the next stitch* Repeat around, join.
R3 - R4 Repeat R2
R5. ch3, dc in each stitch around, join.
Repeat R5 until piece measures 15 inches in total length.
Forming the top: (if you are using solid colours and want the top different, this is a good place to join another colour)
R1. ch1, sc around, join
R2 - R4 Repeat R1.

Fasten off and weave in ends. There you go, you have just made your very own thick and soft cocoon! Remember, when using this as a prop, baby should NEVER be left unattended!

Purple Picot Hat

Originally, Id planned to release this hat with a set, but it occurred to me that its easier to have individual project pages on Rav, and so Id do the same here. Plus, the gown that goes with it will be in picture tutorial form so quite a long post by itself and wont be ready for a few days yet.

This hat is made from Bella Baby Sugar in Lilac which is a 4ply baby yarn, Thats fingering weight for you non Aussies. Its so easy and quick that you could make one in 10-15 minutes!

Purple Picot Hat

20-22 weeks gestation

3.00mm hook and 4ply (fingering/baby) yarn

1. ch3, 10dc in 1st chain, join.

2. ch3, 2dc in each stitch around, join.

3. ch3, dc in the same stitch as chain, *dc in the next stitch, 2dc in the next stitch* Repeat around, Join.

4 - 6. ch3, dc in each stitch around, join.

7. ch3(counts as 1st hdc and ch1), *skip 1 stitch, hdc, ch1* Repeat around, join.

8. slst into the ch1 gap, in the gap (ch3, sc into the 1st ch, slst into the same gap), sl st into the next gap and repeat around, sl st to join.

If you make this same hat with a 3.00mm hook and DK weight yarn you will get a hat that will fit roughly 22-24 weeks gestation.

If you make it with a larger hook (for larger babies) you will want to add an increase row, and an extra length row.

Playing with the Sharp Crochet Hook.

Hello my lovlies. Not a pattern update today (ohnoes Shell! Why not!!)

Today I wanted to share with you some things Ive been working on and playing with. I want to share with you this amazing little device known as the Sharp Crochet Hook. I was lucky enough to be gifted one and I have to say, Im in love. Its opened a whole new world of creativity!

My first attempt was with that lovely super soft and fluffy micro fleece. Well, it did work, but I had to really shove to get the hook through. Probably not good to use such a thick material, and now I know for next time huh! Used crochet cotton in white, and just spaced it as I went, I didn't mark each spot. I did a sc through the material, then chained one. Keep going all around. Then for the second row I switched to a 3.5mm hook and did 2dc in every ch1 space. Looks so pretty!

After learning my lesson with the micro fleece... I opted for some white flannel. This hook was just made for crocheting onto flannel! Went through super easy and in no time at all I have this lovely little wrap finished! Again, crochet cotton, sc, ch1 around, switch to a 3.5mm hook, sc in each ch1 space around, then for the final row I simply went *sl, sl, 3dc in the next st* the entire way around.
I didnt count my stitches on the first round, so I didn't have the right multiple to get a perfect finish, I was one stitch off so the last lot of sl st's was 3 instead of 2 but hey no biggy there, can't even notice!

Im going to work up a few more wraps for charity today and try some other yarns. I have some Moda Vera Gelato and some Baby Belle Sprinkle Im itching to try! Ill share my results with you guys when Im done.

Well I guess you guys did get a pattern after all, however simple it may have been. And if your wanting to grab one of these nifty little hooks yourself head on over to http://www.sharpcrochethook.com/ or you can find them on facebook at sharpcrochethook

And to my Aussie readers, yes they DO post internationally! It took just under 3 weeks for mine to arrive which from the States is about average, and most deff worth the wait! Ill be sure to share some more projects with this hook in the future. I already see hard soled booties in my dreams, now to get them from my head to paper!

Tie Back 3 Inch Booties

UPDATE: 30/10/2012
added instructions below on how to make booties for sizes:22 weeks gestation.

I know I know, second post tonight! I just really wanted to get this one up :)
Its a bit dark tonight inside so the images are slightly dark but Ill be adding more to the Ravelry page tomorrow so you can have a peak there if you want to see it in other colours.

These booties are so simple to make, use hardly any yarn and have an open back. If you are making them for a bigger preemie, or a doll, you may like to close the back seam by sewing it up. Booties are 3 inches long and will fit Hrm about 30-32 weeks. Right under here is the pattern as is, and below Ive added some images to help beginners out with the steps. Frill Top Bootie - Free Pattern

Hello again! Another bootie pattern today. This one is constructed the same as the denim cuff bootie but with alterations to the top. It makes a frilly girly bootie that would look great in any colour! As always, terms are American. Finished bootie is about 5.5cm in length.

For these booties you will need
DK weight yarn (8ply in Aus) in 2 colours. I use Moda Vera Marvel Plain.
3.00mm Hook

1. ch12. hdc twice in the 2nd chain from hook and in the next 9 chains. 3hdc in the last chain.

Working on the opposite side, hdc in the next 9 stitches, 1hdc in the same place as the starting hdc, Join.

2. ch2, hdc in every stitch around, join. (23)

3. ch2, hdc in the next 5, hdc2tg 7 times, hdc in the last 4, join.

4. ch2, hdc in the next 4, hdc2tg 4 times, hdc in the last 4, Join.

5. ch3, dc in each stitch around, join. End off the main colour, in my case white.

6. Join your contrasting colour (pink) with a sl st and chain 3. *sc in the next st, ch3* Repeat this around to create a frilly edge. Join to the starting chain and end off. Weave in ends.

See now wasn't that super fast! If you would like to add a tie, chain 50 and weave the tie in and out of round 4. You could also use thin ribbon.

Denim Cuff 6cm Booties

Named purely because this lovely yarn reminded me of denim. Its called Birds Nest by Moda Vera and is 100% cotton. Beautiful yarn! See a pattern here? Mostly I use Moda Vera from Spotlight (Its all I have locally) They ought to be supplying me yarn for all this plugging lol!

Anyhow, This pattern makes little booties that are about 6cm in length, so they would fit hrm 28-30 weeks gestation. The image isn't too grand, its late here but I really wanted to get this one up and listed. Its super easy, takes about 10 minutes to make one bootie and its all done in one piece, so nothing to add or join!

You will need
3.00mm hook
needle for sewing in ends
Moda Vera Birds Nest, or a similar cotton 4ply baby yarn (fingering for our US friends)
Pattern is written in US terms.

1. ch12. hdc twice in the 2nd chain from hook and in the next 9 chains.

6. Repeat 5.

7. ch2, hdc in each stitch around, Join.

End off and weave in ends, fold the top down to form a folded cuff.

If a tie is desired, chain 50, end off and weave in and out between the dc posts in round 5, tie in a bow at the front.
