Tiny 2 Round Heart

 

Good morning all! 

Today's heart pattern is so easy that t only has 2 rounds, and uses less that 2 meters of yarn! 

These tiny hearts are prefect for the smallest bereavement packs from CCP, but they also make fantastic appliques for other projects.

 

Tiny 2 Round Heart

1: ch2, hdc 6 times into the 1st ch from hook, join to the first hdc.

2: ch3, dc three times in the same st at the starting ch, 2hdc in the next st, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in the next st, 2hdc in the next st, 3dc in the next st, ch3 and slst into the same st as the 3dc, sk the next st and slst to the base of the starting ch3, end off.

Weave in tails to finish.

Size Notes:
2.0mm hook + size 10 thread = 2.5cm across heart
2.0mm hook + fingering weight/4ply = 3cm across heart
3.5mm hook + DK weight/8ply = 4cm across heart
4.0mm hook + DK weight/8ply = 5cm across heart

Good morning all!

To round out week 1 for this years IBGDH I have another new crochet heart pattern! This heart is worked in the round, and is so fast to make you can whip up a pair in under 30 minutes! It's a very simple pattern to memorise too, making it a great handbag project for waiting rooms and car trips.

1: Ch5, join to the first ch to make a ring

2: Into the ring, ch3, dc, ch4, 2dc, ch4, 2dc, ch4, 2dc, ch4, join to the top of the starting ch3

3: Ch1, sc in the same st, sc in the next st, in the ch4 space (2sc, ch2, 2sc), *sc in the next 2 sts, in the next ch4 space (2sc, ch2, 2sc)*, repeat *to* twice more, join to the first sc.

4: Slst in the first 4 sts, slst in the ch2 space, sk the next 3 sts and in between the 3rd and 4th st make 10 trc, slst in the next ch2 space, sk 3 sts, between the 3rd and 4th sts make 10 trc, slst into the next ch2 end off.

IBGHD 2020 and the Square Bottom Heart

Welcome to the 2020 Itty Bitty GIANT Heart drive!

If you didn’t catch the announcement a few weeks ago, here’s a quick overview on this year's drive.

We’ve done such a smashing job over the last 7 years that Chance’s Clothes Project (CCP here-on) no longer needs such a huge influx of hats! So instead of making hats this year, we’re making HEARTS!

Pairs of hearts are an integral item in every single baby bereavement pack that leaves the CCP headquarters. They are included as a keepsake item, one heart stays with the baby, the other heart with the family. It’s provided significant comfort for many families. As you can imagine, this means a huge amount of hearts are needed! So this year, and probably the next few, hearts will be our focus for the IBGHD.

I have been hard at work working on a handful of patterns to release for the drive, but I will also be sharing links to already existing patterns during the month, because there are already some stunning ones out there! To see all the links be sure to follow on Facebook or Instagram

Not only do we have CCP on board this year, but we once again welcome some fantastic international groups who are also in need of heart keepsakes. I’ll add all of the organisations and their postal addresses to the bottom of this announcement.

HEART GUIDELINES

1. Hearts must come in a MATCHING pair, meaning 2 identical hearts. This is super important.

2. Hearts must not be bigger than the size of your palm. They can be as small as you like however. This ensures there are hearts to fit all gestational packs, but also makes sure they are not too big to bulk up packaging too much.

3. Hearts can be flat or stuffed, but if you are making 3D/stuffed hearts please do not over stuff them, again this is to help with packaging.

4. Hearts can be made from fabric or felt, knitted, crocheted or sewn. They must be soft (so no origami or beaded hearts) You can use embroidery, a small amount of beading or buttons or attach bows to decorate your hearts but please keep the thickness in mind.

5. When getting your hearts ready for postage, please ensure the pairs are tied together with a piece of thread, yarn, ribbon or even safety pinned. This is so none get misplaced or lost, and to help the volunteers easily sort through the parcels once they arrive. This is super important to keeping everything running smoothly.

6. You are welcome to use whatever pattern you feel like using. You are certainly not obligated to use mine, or the ones I’ll be sharing. In fact the more variety the better!

7. Colour Requirements. This will depend entirely on who you are sending your completed hearts to.

Chance’s Clothes Project: Any colour is fine, but solid colours paired with whites are the best if using 2 colours.

Sleeping Beauties Angel Gowns Kent: White, pastel pink, pastel blue, lilac, lemon yellow and mint green.

Anencephaly Hope: Any colours are fine, however light pink, light purple, Light blue, Navy blue, greys, white, light and bright yellows are used the most.

I have also included a question about where you are from and where you donated to. The location question is country only, and is included so I can see if there are groups of people in countries we don’t currently have a recipient charity in, that I can try and find before next year.

IBGHD 2019 Day 19 The Rocco Windress Hat

Hello all and welcome to day 19.

Today's hat is a lovely little design created by Mim Layton, and will fit 16-18 weeks gestation. This is a super fast beanie to make, and perfect for travelling as it's so easy to memorize.

This pattern is in remembrance of Rocco Windress.

Connor Blanket - May CAL Part 4

Good morning all! This is the 4th installment of this months Connor blanket, and the second last set of instructions.

There are only 4 rounds this week, as the blanket is getting larger now, they take longer to complete, so I thought it would be much easier on everyone if the last few installments had less rows to worry about.

I have to say, I've been so excited seeing all the photos pouring in on both Ravelry and Facebook! You guys sure know how to pick some fantastic colour combos!

Connor Blanket - May CAL Part 1

Good morning all and welcome to this years blanket CAL. Unlike last year, this year's is a mystery CAL, so you won't see the full blanket until the very end of the month, How exciting!

The May CAL blanket is named in honor of my friends beautiful boy Connor, who was born sleeping recently 💙

For supplies you will need 

• 3 colours of Worsted Weight/Aran/10ply yarn. 
• Stitch Markers
• 5mm (H) hook

I've made this pattern using Prato Collection Stefania, Value Ball Spot Saver USA Style, both available from Spotlight stores, and also Red Heart Super Saver I ordered internationally. The sizes are VERY similar with only a cm difference between all 3 yarns with the finished blanket.
Allow 150g of your main colour (A) and 100g of both colours B and C. Of course you don't have to stick to 3 colours, and this blankets various stitch patterns lends itself well to using up scraps.

The finished blanket will be approx 65cm in diameter, perfect for a full term 40 week baby.

If you want to make it larger, I'll add instructions at the end of the CAL for doing so.

Chris Jacket - Free Newborn Crochet Pattern

Good morning all and welcome to May's newborn pattern.

The Chris Jacket has been something I've had in the works for a while, and you may remember I used the same stitch for a pair of Preemie Pants back in 2015.

Gosh, I really do love this little jacket. Just enough texture to mix it up, but not too busy, and very neutral. It's a quick make too, and wouldn't take more than a day to complete,  making it perfect for last minute baby showers. Made as instructed, this jacket will fit a newborn baby, up to maybe 2 months, depending of course on bubs size.

Sized To Fit:
Newborn to 2 months

You will need
4mm hook
DK weight (8ply, light worsted) yarn in main and contrasting colour. 1 100g ball of the main colour is plenty.

Sleeves.

1: Attach yarn to any stitch towards the back side of an arm hole and ch2, hdc in the same stitch and evenly hdc around the arm hole for 28 stitches, join. (28)

2: Ch2, *hdc in the next 5 stitches, hdc2tg* repeat around, join. - 24

3: Ch3 *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch, dc in the skipped stitch*, repeat around, join. - 24

4: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join. - 24

5-10: Repeat rounds 3-4. - 24

11-12: Ch1, sc in each stitch around. - 24

End off and weave in all tails. Reattach yarn to the second arm hole and complete 1-12 to make the second sleeve.

Finishing.

Figure out what position you would like your buttons in, and place markers there. I picked 3 buttons, but you could do any number you like.

Join your contrasting colour to the bottom right corner of the jacket and ch1, sc evenly up the side of the front opening of the jacket, sc in each stitch around the neckline, sc back down the other side of the front opening, when you reach a stitch marker make a button hole, I chained 3 for my button holes, but you may need more or less depending on the size of your buttons, once you have chained 3 for your button hole sc back into the same space before continuing to sc down the opening. When you reach the bottom, sc in each stitch across the bottom of the jacket until you reach the starting ch1, and slst to join.

End off and weave in all of the tails. Add your buttons and done!

Peter Gown - Free Angel Gown Pattern

Good morning all!

Phew! What a crazy month it was last month with the blanket CAL! It was awesome, but it's nice to get back to some normalcy here on the blog. Of course, that means today is Preemie Pattern day! YAY!

Today's preemie pattern is for a small gown, that is made to match the Peter Beanie from 2016's Hat Drive! Like the hat, it also fits 24 weeks gestation. I did say I wanted to get some sets sorted, and I'm glad I finally have time to do so!

This is a very simple, straight forward gown and uses no more that 50g of yarn in your main colour, even less for the contrasting. This gown is fully open at the back, and uses ties to close. Of course you could do your own closure type should you choose to.

I used some Patons Fairytale Fab DK yarn for this one, but of course, any DK/8ply yarn will work.

Note: Row 5 LOOKS insane, but it isn't. It's just spaced out increases that have been wrote the long way that I usually do, so that beginners can easily follow along <3 Promise it isn't hard at all. Also, if tails bother you, weave them in as you go, because where there are stripes, there are lots of tails!

You Will Need:

DK/8ply/Light Worsted weight yarn in a main and contrasting colour.

2: Ch3, turn, *dc in the next 2 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch*, repeat across. -44

3: Ch3, turn, *dc in the next 3 stitches, 2dc in the next stitch*, repeat across. -55

8-15: Repeat rows 6-7

Change to main colour

16: Ch1, turn, sc in each stitch across. End off

With the right side of your gown facing up (completely up to you, I prefer the dc rows to be facing the outside) rejoin the main colour to the top corner of the back of your gown and ch2, evenly hdc down the side of the opening, in the bottom corner stitch make 2hdc, hdc along the bottom of the gown, 2hdc in the next corner, hdc evenly back up the remaining side of the gown and slst into the top corner (do not crochet along the neckline) End off and weave in all tails.

To make the ties, attach the yarn to the spot on the back you want them, and chain 25. End off, weave in ends and trim the free end of the chain, not too close, you don't want it to unravel.

Mini Crochet Christmas Stocking 2 Ways

Morning all!

Today's pattern is one I've had sitting in my drafts book since forever! I keep coming back and forth to it, and finally got it finished! YAY!

I love mini stockings. Felted, sewn, crocheted, they are all good! I'm hoping to get a bunch more of these done before December, not just for decorating, but because they are such a fun way to package smaller gifts!

Now, Ive done 2 versions here, both from the same pattern. I'll take you through the solid sized one first, then tell you about the alterations for the mini one at the end.

Mini Christmas Stockings

You Will Need:
3.5mm hook
4ply (fingering) weight yarn
Buttons or Beads to decorate

Size:
Cream stocking - 14cm length, 6.5cm wide

hdc2tg - half double crochet 2 together

1. Ch3, dc in the 1st chain 10 times, join.

2. Ch3, 2dc in each stitch around, join.

3-6: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join.

5: Ch1, sc in the first 5 stitches, (hdc, dc) in the next stitch, 2dc in each of the next 8 stitches, (dc, hdc) in the next stitch, sc in the last 5 stitches, join.

6-7: Ch1, sc in the first 7 stitches, dc in the next 16 stitches, sc in the last 7 stitches.

8: Ch1, sc 10, hdc2tg 6 times, sc in the last 8 stitches

9: Ch1, sc in each stitch around, join.

10-21: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join,

22: Place a stitch market in the centre back stitch. This round can be either normal sc, or reverse sc (crab stitch) the choice is yours. For normal sc, ch1, sc in each stitch until you reach the marker, sc in the stitch with the marker, chain 15, sc into the same stitch with the marker, sc in each remaining stitch and join to the first sc. To finish with the crab stitch, ch1, sc in each previous stitch (working in reverse) until you reach the marker, sc into the stitch with the marker, ch15, sc into the same stitch, continue crab stitching around. End off and weave in tails.

Add any decorations you wish.

Now, to make the super small multi coloured stocking, I used size 8 cotton pearl thread and a 2mm hook. Use the contrasting colour for the first 2 rounds, then switch to the main colour for rounds 3-6. When you reach the heel section, use the contrasting colour for the hdc/dc's in round 5, and the dc's in round 6-7. You can choose to end the colour each round or just carry it with you crocheting over the excess thread as you go. Swap back to the main colour for the 8th and all remaining rounds. Again, weave in ends and decorate as desired.

Red and Green stocking - 11cm length, 4.5cm wide

This mini sized stocking would be perfect for lip glosses or nail polish bottles! The larger one would be fantastic for chocolate/candy bars, small gifts and cosmetics!

30. Amira Preemie Beanie

Well lovelies, here we are. Day 30! What a month it's been! I know the ladies in the CCP crafters group have learnt a whole bunch of new stitches this past month!

I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing every single photo you have shared with me this September, and have been blown away time and time again by your skills and colour choices! Amazing, simply amazing. Thankyou to everyone who joined in, regardless of if you used my patterns or not. Thankyou too for all the shares from everyone! Word of mouth is so important for events like these!

I always feel a little emotional writing up the last post. It's a weird combination of relief, excitement and a bit of sad. So so many hours of work throughout the last few months, so many stitches and so much time reflecting on not only my own angels, but the ones that will eventually wear these hats, and the ones who they are named after.

The next 15 days are a good time to weave in ends, add any extras and reflect on the enormously amazing contributions you have all made. Your hats will bring a family so much comfort and love in their darkest hours. Don't forget to post your hats on the 15th, which is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Now, I know that falls on the weekend this year, so feel free to do it a few days earlier if you live somewhere that doesn't have weekend postage.

The Amira beanie, is another bottom up design. Gosh I love these, they just look so good! The Amira beanie will fit a bub of 32-34 weeks gestation, and is pretty easy once you get the hang of the clusters. Be sure to pay attention to the cluster decreases, they can be a bit tricky if you've never done something like this before, but Ive wrote out how to do them, so you should be good to go <3

You Will need:

Sized To Fit:
32-34 Weeks Gestation
Band:

1: Ch6, sc into the second chain from hook and each chain across - 5sc

2-46 ch1, turn, sc across in the back looks only

End off, sew band together, being careful not to twist.

Rejoin yarn to the band somewhere near the join and ch1, sc evenly for 48 stitches around the band, working in the row ends.

STARTING CLUSTER: *yo, insert hook in same st, draw up a loop, yo, draw yarn through two loops*, repeat once, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook,


CLUSTER: *yo, insert hook into the space, draw up a loop, yo, draw yarn through two loops* repeat 2 more times in the same space, yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook.

29. Lynli Preemie Bonnet

Good morning all and hello to day 29!

Wow, we are almost at the end of the month now. That's incredible! I hope everyone has been enjoying the patterns thus far!

Today's pattern, the Lynli bonnet is a sweet little one that makes use of stacked shells and V stitches. When I get a chance, I think Ill go back and add a nice big crochet flower to the side of one of these.

28: Jordan Preemie Beanie

Good morning all and welcome to day 28!
Today's beanie was a really fun one to design, and something I don't do often enough! Mixing stitches! The Jordan beanie is sized to fit 38 week preemies. It features a variety of stitches, and when mixed with various coloured yarns it creates something pretty special indeed.
I haven't given any instructions on how many colours to use. That is your choice, and a part of the fun of a pattern like this!

27. Hayden Newborn Beanie

Good morning lovelies and welcome to day 27!
Ohh I actually love the number 27! It's my birthday number (of course, that's back in May, but still!) I also LOVE today's pattern!

The Hayden Beanie, is a little unique, in that it's made bottom up! That's right, we make the band first. Now, I know that sometimes counting rows, especially lots of them, can be a right pain, but I use this handy page to keep track! Row Counter is an awesome and simple site, just input your number of rows needed and off you go! So much easier to keep track!

You Will Need:
DK Weight/8ply Yarn
4mm hook

Sized To Fit:
Newborn/Full Term 40 weeks.

Band:

1: Ch9, sc in the second chain from hook and each across - 8sc
2: Ch1, turn, sc in each stitch across using back loops only. - 8sc
3-49: Repeat row 2.

End off, leaving a long tail. Sew the back together at the ends, being careful not to twist.
The join will be the back of the beanie

1: Attach yarn to one of the edge stitches of the band and ch1, sc in the end rows of the band for 52sc, then join to the first sc

25. Quirt Preemie Beanie

Good morning all and welcome to day 25!!!
Today's beanie, the Quirt, is designed for a full term 40 week newborn. However, drop off one increase round and you'll have a size to fit a 38 week preemie.

The quirt hat makes use of slip stitches to create a textured section. I used 3 shades of the same colour for mine to create an ombre effect, but you could use any colours. This is a great beanie to use up those few remaining meters of colour!

3: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next stitch, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -27hdc

4: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -36hdc

Skip this increase for 38 week size.
5: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -45hdc

6-12: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, join to the ch2.

13-15: Ch2, hdc in each stitch around, back loops only, join to the ch2.

16: Ch1, sc in each st around, join to the ch1.

End off main colour.

Using various coloured yarn, attach to the loops left from rounds 13-15 and sl st in each stitch around.

Sl st loosely or go up a size in hook to ensure they don't pull tight.

I find instead of slst to the first slst to join the round, just end off with the last slst into the last loop, and tie the ends together before weaving them in. It creates less bulk.

Weave in all tails.

24: Lyn Preemie Bonnet Upsized

4. Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -36hdc

5: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -45hdc

6: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, do not join to the ch2. -54hdc
