12. Arthur Newborn Beanie



Hi guys! Welcome to day 12, rounding out our first dozen patterns! Today's release is the Arthur beanie, which is a simple and basic earflap beanie, to fit 40 weeks, or a full term newborn. Ive made mine using contrasting colours, but you could do it solid, or make thicker stripes. It's a great basic pattern for adding extra's too, like appliques and flowers!





Arthur Beanie

You Will Need:
4.5mm hook
DK Weight/8ply yarn in 2 colours.

Sized To Fit
Full Term Newborn (40 Weeks Gestation)

Note: Alternate colours every round to create stripes.

1: Into a magic ring, ch1, hdc 9 times, join to the first hdc. -9hdc

2: Ch2, hdc into the same stitch, 2hdc in each stitch around, join to the ch2. - 18hdc

3: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next stitch, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. - 27hdc

4: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -36hdc

5: Ch2, hdc in the same stitch, *hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2hdc in the next stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch2. -45hdc

6-11: Ch3, dc in each stitch around, join to the ch3. -45dc

End off yarn and weave in tails.

Earflap 1.
1: Count off  6 stitches to the left of the centre back, join yarn, ch3, dc in the same stitch, dc in the next 7 stitches.

2: Ch3, turn, dc2tg, dc3, dc2tg

3: Ch3, turn, dc3tg twice (last one will use the ch3)

End off, weaving in tails.

Earflap 2.

Count off 13 stitches to the right of the centre back and repeat earflap 1 instructions for second earflap.

End off, weave in tails.

Edging: Join yarn to centre back of hat and ch2, hdc in the same stitch and around the entire hat, including the earflaps. Join to the ch2. End off, weaving in all tails.
