22. Elijah Newborn Beanie



Good morning all and welcome to day 22. Today's beanie is an upsize! The Elijah beanie, a classic granny stitch earflap beanie, has been redesigned so it will now fit a full term newborn. I love this style, and according to the numerous upsize requests, so do you guys!



The Elijah Beanie, Upsized

You Will Need:
DK Weight/8ply Yarn in 3 Colours (A, B and C)
4.0mm hook

Sized To Fit:
40 weeks gestation, full term newborn.

NOTE: For the sake of easy writing, each ch1 gap and each space between clusters will both be referred to as spaces.


With Colour A
1. Into a magic ring, ch2, 12 dc's, join to the first dc. -12dc

2. Ch3, 2dc in the same stitch, skip 1 stitch, *3dc in the next stitch, skip one stitch*, repeat around, join to the ch3. -18dc

Change To Colour B
3. Slst into the space between the 3dc clusters, (ch3, 2dc, ch1, 3dc) in the space, (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in each remaining space, join to the ch3. -36dc

4. Slst into the first space, ch3, 2dc in the same space, 3dc in each of the next 2 spaces, *(3dc, ch1, 3dc) in the next space, 3dc in each of the next 3 spaces*, repeat around. ending with a (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in the last space. -45dc

Change To Colour A
5. Slst into the next space between 3dc clusters, ch3, 2dc in the same space, 3dc in each remaining space around around, join to the ch3. -45dc

6: Repeat around 5.

Change To Colour B
7-8: Repeat round 5

Change To Colour A
9-10: Repeat round 5

Change To Colour B
11-12: Repeat round 5

10. Slst into the next space, ch3, 2dc in the same space, 3dc in the next space, 3dc in the next space, turn, ch1, 3dc in the next space, 3dc in the next space, ch1, slst to the top of the ch3. End off, one earflap made

11. Count off 5 spaces to the left of the earflap you just made and join yarn with a sl st, ch3, 2dc in the same space, 3dc in the next space, 3dc in the next space, turn, ch1, 3dc in the next space, 3dc in the next space, ch1, slst to the top of the ch3. End off, second earflap made

Change To Colour C
12. Join yarn to the space in the middle of an earflap, ch3, 2dc in the same space, 3dc in the ch1 space, dc once in the same space as the 3dc cluster from the previous round (view photo below to see location), 3dc in each space until you reach the next earflap, dc once in the same space as the previous 3dc cluster, 3dc in the ch1 space, 3dc in the next space, 3dc in the next ch1 space, dc in the same space as the 3dc cluster from previous round, 3dc in each space until you reach the 1st earflap, dc in the same space as the 3dc cluster from the previous round, 3dc in the ch1 space, join to the starting ch3. End off, weave in all tails.
